Secretary General Foreward

Hello everyone, welcome to IPMUN’14! This is the seventh year since the programme was first formalised and it promises to be an intriguing one. This year will be the first year ACS will be collaborating with our sister school MGS, converging the best minds to produce three enthralling days of debate that will not disappoint.

The aim of IPMUN’14 is simple. While it serves primarily to help students understand the fundamentals of MUNning, more than anything, it aims to create an environment that is formal but friendly, ultimately helping students appreciate the importance of the United Nations as well as the enriching learning points that intersect at the numerous junctures of proceedings.

Fast-paced and dynamic, the debates will be spread across 5 councils, namely:

1.General Assembly (GA)

2.Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)

3.Human Rights Council (HRC)

4.Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC)

5.Security Council (SC)

In each of the respective councils, delegates will be called to handle specific issues that are very relevant in the world today. Assuming the identity and responsibility of their specific member state, they will have to work closely with other delegates representing other countries. Be it and ally or an international rival, diplomacy will be key in ironing out differences in reaching a mutual conclusion. All of which of course, has to be carried out strictly within the perimeters of their member nation’s identity. This provides a challenge for delegates, asking of them to work within tight constraints, challenging their oratorical skills as much as their negotiating skills. However, with that being said, that is what IPMUN’14 strives to do, to uncover communications skills that are absolutely essential as a life asset.

On a lighter note, IPMUN’14 is an introductory MUN. While the debates will be intense, the process promises to be an enriching and fulfilling one. In the process of ‘diplomacy’, really it’s a contrived word for making friends. While preserving the formalities in the MUN-setting, looking at it from a broad perspective, the experience benefits delegates in a less-than outlandish way, helping students acquire life-assets. However, this only exists if students are willing to step forward and speak.

I can’t quite explain it with words, you’ll have to experience it yourself. We’re excited and we can’t wait to help you get on the podium.

See you soon.
